ACTU Solidarity Message to Daqing Oil Workers
15 March 2002 In solidarity with the protesting oil workers in Daqing, the president of the Australian Council of Trade Unions (ACTU) sent the following message:
Message to: Daqing Workers
On behalf of Australian workers I extend messages of solidarity to the workers from the Daqing oilfield.
Working people have rights and are entitled to have employment agreements respected. Retrenchment is a traumatic experience for any working person but to be denied agreed procedures and compensation makes this trauma even worse.
All over the world workig people are struggling for fundamental rights to organise and to collectively bargain for fair wages and conditions.
Your courage and your commitment to fair treatment is inspiring.
I wish you every success for a swift victory.
