On 24 April 2003, according to a report in the Peoples Daily, the bodies of ten miners were found in a coal mine in Guxian County, Shanxi Province.
The mine was flooded on 17 April 2003. According to reports, both the main and auxiliary shafts were flooded. Of the twenty miners working in the shafts at the time, six escaped, while 14 others remained in the mine.
Four miners remain missing, believed drowned.
