Eleven workers dead after accident in storage facility in Henan

On 5 May 2004, storage shelves stacked with raw garlic collapsed at the Chenzai Cold Storage factory in Zhengzhou, Henan Province, burying 30 workers and killing 11 of them.


The workers were stacking garlic in the workshop when shelves piled some 10 metres high with garlic shoots collapsed promoting a rescue attempt to dig the workers out of the rubble of the shelves and the produce.


According to reports, police detained the owner of the storage unit, surnamed Zhang.
