22 Miners Killed in Central China

Four people were confirmed dead and eight missing after a fire broke out in the Tanjiadong coalmine in Liujiachang, Songzi, Hubei Province on 21 January, 2002. Tanjiadong mine was one of the earliest state-owned coalmines in Hubei Province, now producing a yearly 30,000 tonnes.

Another eighteen people were killed in a blast in Zijiang coalmine, Lengshuijiang City of Hunan Province on 14 January, 2002.
